Welcome to our first official “Pets of OMP” feature! If you have pets you’d love to see featured in Old Mission Gazette, email me a photo and some info about their breed, personality, etc. at [email protected].
Paula Kelley’s note about Maverick below is a great example of what we’re looking for. High-resolution photos are best, but I can work with most photos.

From Paula…
This is Maverick (aka “Dingus”), part of my pack of four of Team Dog that lives at the Kelley household. He is a 6-year-old sheltie/collie mix and is a rescue from the Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio.
I have had Maverick for three years, and most of the time he is A Real Piece of Work. Every day is Christmas for him, and he wakes up full of noise and energy and generally getting into trouble before we’ve even gone out the door.
Like most herding dogs, Mav is very smart, but chooses to pretend he has mashed potatoes for brains, while romping around like a circus pony. He has two speeds – PLAY and PLAY MORE – which often doesn’t make him an agreeable roommate to the other dogs in the house.
Maverick is super friendly, but has a lot to say when first meeting people, so we are working on his manners. I think this might be a lifelong project!
Like all my other dogs, Maverick loves to travel and has been to Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee with me.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
