Library Director Vicki Shurly says that experience is nice, but not necessary. “We are a small library and will teach you what you need to know,” she says. “More important is a natural rapport with people in a small community setting, empathy, and a sense of creativity.”
Hours for the position will be Monday, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
There are occasional meetings and events that take place outside of regular hours. Hourly wage is $14, and there is a small amount of paid vacation time based on years in service. Employees are free to exchange hours on an as needed basis as events arise in personal lives.
To apply, send a cover letter and resume to Vicki via email, [email protected], or drop it off at the library, 2893 Island View Road, by Monday, August 23, at 5 p.m. (no phone calls).
Starting date for the position is Tuesday, Sept. 7.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
