It’s been a rough year for losses on the Old Mission Peninsula, including my husband, Tim, who passed away in January, and our dear friend, Lorey Kroupa, who passed away in November. Here are the details on their upcoming memorials.
Lorey Kroupa. Lorey, who many of you remember as the good-humored guy selling flowers on the corner of Bowers Harbor Road and Peninsula Drive, passed away on Nov. 24, 2021. His wife, Marge, is planning a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 18, at the Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church, 16426 Center Road. The service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by an open house from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Kroupa Farm, 1881 Neahtawanta Road. A lunch will be provided.

Come and share your memories and visit with family members. Marge says Lorey didn’t like wearing suits, so this will be an informal celebration. “We want you to be comfortable and make this a fun happy celebration of a life well lived,” she says.
Tim Boursaw. Tim, my partner in crime for 42 years, passed away on Jan. 5, 2022. There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, July 10, 2 – 4 p.m. at Bowers Harbor Park (the big pavilion nearest to Bowers Harbor Road). (Apologies to the cherry farmers for the timing, but that’s when our daughter, Marissa, will be able to fly back from California).
Like Lorey’s, this will be an informal gathering, so don’t worry about getting dressed up. My dear friend Marge Long, along with my church, OMP United Methodist, is planning the food. It’s rumored to have an Old Mission Peninsula School lunch theme from back in the day when her mom, Jo Brown, cooked lunches for all of us. Sloppy Joes, maybe even cinnamon rolls, possibly some sort of key lime dessert, because Tim’s favorite was key lime pie. Maybe I can even get them to throw in some cheese sticks (my favorite item on those green lunch trays).
I’m writing something up about my guy, which Marge has gratefully agreed to read for me, because I’m sure I won’t be able to read it myself. Come and gather with our friends and family, and share any stories about Tim where the statute of limitations has expired.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
