Peninsula Community Library has partnered with Michigan Medicine on a series of health lectures in recent months. On October 3, the program was “Can You Hear Me? Progress in the Treatment of Hearing Disorders,” presented by Gabriel Corfas, Ph.D. I’ve included the video below.

The lectures have been very well attended, and we’ve been so fortunate to have physicians from Michigan Medicine offer timely information on what’s happening with various health issues. Thanks to the crew at Peninsula Community Library for making it happen.

The video below on Hearing Disorders is my first with my new video camera (a Canon Vixia HF G50). I’m still figuring out how it all works – lighting, resolution, zooming in and out, etc. – but I think the quality is definitely better than the iPhone video I did of the blood cancers lecture.

I also need a taller tripod, so I can be in the back of the room and shoot the video over the top of the audience. And at some point, I’ll figure out how to “brand” the videos with Old Mission Gazette info, subtitles, etc. If any of you have a favorite video editing program, let me know via [email protected] or by leaving a comment in the comments section at the bottom of this story. A learning process!

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette

  1. Many thanks, Jane, for videoing the last two Michigan Medicine programs at Peninsula Community Library. Great job! We are so grateful, as are those who were unable to attend the live programs. We are working with Michigan Medicine on programming for next year!
