Experts say that music exerts an influence on us in so many positive ways. It’s heart healthy – research shows that blood flows more easily when music is listened to. It can boost memory, relieve stress, increase task endurance and even help us to eat less. I must try that last one!
In any case, we invite you to join us at Peninsula Community Library on Monday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m., when the Happy Time Banjos delight with songs of the season. Enjoy a cup of mulled wine or cider, munch on a cookie or two, sing along or just sit back and relax! Holiday music is the best!
Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

I am looking for a volunteer to help repair our Little Free Libraries. If you have woodworking skills and want to donate time and talent to your community library, we need you! Weather is causing water to get inside. The houses need a seal around the door, an eventual coat of paint in warmer weather and a weather proof roof – perhaps shingles??? Creativity is a plus!
Patrons love and use these frequently, and the adult box out front is especially missed. Email or call me if you have the right skills – [email protected] or (231) 223-7700.
Be sure to check out the Friends of PCL popup book & puzzle sale in our foyer, Dec. 1 – 15. There are some great items out there. Some are in such perfect condition you can give them as gifts! They even already have a bow! Each bundle is only $5!
Hope to see you Monday for the Happy Time Banjos! Hans Christian Anderson said, “Where words fail, music speaks.” Join us for a great evening!
Peninsula Community Library is located at 2893 Island View Road, on the corner of Center Road.
A NOTE FROM JANE: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers like the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, and magazines like Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So of course, I started my own newspaper. Because the Gazette is mainly reader-supported, I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks my way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the Old Mission Peninsula. Check out the donation page here. Thank you so much for your support. -jb
