The annual Chicken BBQ at Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church was a great success this year, as always. People love that buttery-good chicken, grilled on an old-fashioned BBQ pit beside the church, along with all the delicious sides and desserts (desserts home-made by the church crew, of course).

A big thank-you to everyone who stopped by, ordered take-out, made desserts, turned chicken, and helped out at the event, which brought in around $4000, last I heard.
As I was out in California helping my daughter turn 26 (more on that later), thanks to Pastor Andrea Johnson for sending along the great pics.

After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family.
