Garland-Tompkins American Legion Post 399, chartered in January of 1953, is embarking on its 71st year serving the veterans and citizens of Old Mission Peninsula.
All of us at the Post recognize that our organization would not exist without the goodwill and support of a wonderful community. Thank you, citizens of Old Mission Peninsula.

There has been a lot of activity at the Post during the last three years. A new roof was installed in 2022 thanks to the generous support of both Rotary Charities and members of our local community, many of whom are not veterans themselves.

We are currently undertaking a rebuilding of the deteriorating 30-year-old steps and ramp, thanks to another generous grant from The Home Depot which allowed us to purchase the needed materials. The volunteer work on the steps and ramp is being conducted by the maintenance crew from the Dougherty House, assisted by members of Post 399.
The parking lot was resealed this spring, using a grant from an anonymous donor. Finally, the Post hall will have new flooring installed this June, using financial assistance from another anonymous donor, as well as leftover funds generated during the roofing project.
These much needed renovations will allow Post 399 to continue its mission: “To enhance the well being of U.S. veterans, serve the local community, improve our understanding of veteran’s issues and share community concerns.”
On June 4th, Post 399 elected new officers. Serving as the new Post Commander will be Bruce Thomas, and the new Vice Commander/Adjutant is David Taylor. Mary Shultz will continue as the Treasurer, and Karen Gleason will serve as the Secretary. The officers will be assisted by three at-large members: Diane Shafer, Tom Obrecht and Rudy Rudolph.

Leaving his position as Vice Commander/Adjutant, to pursue added responsibilities with Rotary, is Tom Petzold. Thank you, Tom, for 12 years of faithful service to the Post.

Garland-Tompkins American Legion Post hosts a community dinner each first and third Tuesday of the month. These are family style dinners prepared by our wonderful chef Raj Asava and his wife Dawn.
Tasty and wholesome food for $15 per plate, served in the company of members of your community. Show up at 6 p.m. for appetizers, with the dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
