“There is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don’t care who gets the credit.” – Ronald Reagan
Deep roots and well-rounded experience matter. I have both. I understand the needs of our community because of my 50 years of living here and my diverse background where I raised my family, work and plan to spend the rest of my life. My professional background includes experience in the legal field, banking industry, government agencies, building trades and social service organizations.
I am running for County Commissioner to serve with honesty, fairness and a commitment to representing all voices. As a certified Court Mediator, I have honed my skills in Conflict Resolution by bringing people with diverse perspectives together to find respectful, mutually beneficial solutions.
I believe in considering the needs of multiple generations, learning from the past, staying attuned to the present and planning wisely for the future. I will look to the past so we might learn from their successes as well as the mistakes. Service to family, friends and the community is the foundation of my character.
I have 50 years invested in Northern Michigan:
- Mentor individuals experiencing homelessness, incarceration, mental health struggles, substance use disorders and social challenges.
- Grand Traverse County Community Corrections Advisory Board member.
- City of Traverse City Vice-Chair Election Inspector.
- Keys to Freedom Ministries Coach and Board Advisor.
- Before During After Incarceration (BDAI) former Board Member, Volunteer.
- Former employee of Women’s Resource Center, Goodwill Inn Homeless Shelter, Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, Pete’s Place Youth Shelter.
- Cherry Capital Cycling Club, past President, 4 years and Member.
- Safe Harbor Volunteer with various Churches and Wellington Street.
I need your help to win the Primary on August 6, 2024. I am the best candidate to represent your interests. I appreciate and welcome any size donation, a letter to the editor, sign location, time or endorsement of my campaign.
If you have questions or comments, please contact me at (231) 632-2198 or visit my website. Thank you in advance for your confidence and support.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
