Hello Neighbors and Friends of Old Mission:

I am Lisa Trombley, and I’m running for Michigan State Representative in the 103rd District. In the Tuesday, August 6th primary, I am asking for your vote!

I am a native Michiganian who grew up on the Great Lakes and, after more than 30 years in the Washington, DC area as a business leader in the technology services industry, I retired to OMP in 2019.

I have been active in our community as a volunteer, donor or officer for several organizations, including the Old Mission Women’s Club, Impact100TC, 20Fathoms, the Botanic Gardens, Peninsula Community Library, Newcomers Club, and the Economic Club of Traverse City. Additionally, I enjoy community forums like Peninsula Insights, TCNewTech and the International Affairs Forum.

I regularly attend township, county and city commission meetings, including special meetings addressing planning, ordinances and, most recently, housing. I serve on the Peninsula Township absentee voter counting board. I am a Precinct Delegate and have served as both Secretary and Chair of the Grand Traverse County Republican Party. I have developed valuable relationships around the district and the state that will allow me to hit the ground running in Lansing.

I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an MS in Technology Management from the American University. I have extensive experience planning and managing large, complex programs for a wide variety of government entities. I am proud to have worked for Lockheed Martin for 27 years, but my experience is well rounded, having also worked as an independent management consultant and for privately held firms, including in the capacity of COO.

The most important title I hold is “Mom.” I have one son, a professional automotive mechanic, who I’m proud to share has enlisted to serve our country as a Marine, departing for recruit training in August. Many of the decisions made in Lansing will have negative financial implications for him and all our children and grandchildren for years to come.

The priorities most frequently raised by voters across the district include getting Lansing’s financial house in order; ensuring proper investment in our infrastructure and education; empowering small businesses, instead of government, so they — and their employees — can thrive; promoting affordable and reliable energy policies; and protecting our Great Lakes and natural resources. These challenges are not partisan, and our Representatives in Lansing should be held accountable to work together to address them.

As a business leader who has worked in the private sector but also with government, I have a unique perspective, relevant experience, and a track record of getting things done in a dynamic, and often dysfunctional, environment. I look forward to being the voice for our community and bring those same standards and accountability to Lansing.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
