It’s that time of year when all the college and high school kids head back to school. Which means a lot of our local businesses are looking for folks to fill the jobs those kids are vacating as we head into the fall season.

Mission Proper, located at the Seven Hills Community Center, is one of those local businesses.

Old Mission Gazette is Reader Supported.

“As the summer winds down, we’re wishing our amazing team members Addie, Regan, Anna, Mae, Emery and Saydi the best of luck as they head off to college and dive back into school and sports,” they note on the Mission Proper Facebook page. “We couldn’t be prouder of them and all they’ve learned and accomplished here at Mission Proper this Summer! 💛”

“That said, we’re ramping up to welcome new folks to our fun-spirited team! We’re on the lookout for a few baristas and a line cook who share our passion for delivering proper quality food, coffee, and tea to our wonderful community.”

For those who love to cook, they’re looking for “an upbeat, high-energy individual who’s passionate about crafting delicious, nourishing dishes. Kitchen experience is a must, and a curiosity about the world of coffee is a bonus! You’ll be focusing on light breakfast and lunch offerings, assisting with prep, inventory, and making sure every dish leaves the kitchen with care and creativity.”

I talked with Jennifer Kuhar, co-founder and owner of Mission Proper, and she said this is a crucial time for them to make the revenue they need to sustain the business through the quieter months. “If I can’t find additional staff, I may be forced to close on more days than I’d like,” she says.

If you’ve met friends for coffee at Mission Proper, or had meetings at the big table in the middle of the room, you know that it’s a lot more than just a café. It’s a part of our community, and in essence, Jennifer is asking the community for support. “I believe the residents of Old Mission Peninsula want to see us flourish,” she says.

She notes that you don’t have to be young to work there! Jennifer is hoping to connect with folks in the community who might be retired or looking for something meaningful to do. Maybe you’ve been secretly wanting to be a barista, or maybe you have a passion for baking. She’d love to hear from you.

“If you have barista experience, that’s amazing,” she notes, “but honestly, if you’ve got heart, hustle, and a willingness to learn, we’re ready to train you to serve up joy in a cup and help create special moments for our guests.”

Mission Proper has been embraced by the Old Mission Peninsula community, and with a little extra support, they’ll be able to serve up “Joy in a Cup” for many more seasons to come.

If you’re looking to be part of a positive, healthy work environment where everyone feels valued, reach out to Jennifer at [email protected] (Note: that’s “co” at the end, not “com”). Let her know what you’re interested in, what you’re passionate about, and why you want to join the Mission Proper team.

And if being part of the team doesn’t fit with your life right now, help spread the word so we can all enjoy the loveliness that is Mission Proper for many years to come.

Be sure and check out their website, and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
