Calvin John Jamieson, a lifelong resident of the Old Mission Peninsula passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024 surrounded by family. He was nearly 92 and will be remembered for his love for family, faith, country and community. He was a kind, patient and generous man, always willing to lend a hand or offer advice when asked.

Cal and his late wife Verla were very active in the OMP community, including the OMP United Methodist Church, Old Mission Legion, OMP Historical Society and the Tree-Planting Committee, working with the Scouts to plant trees along our OMP roads.

A native of the Peninsula, he had a gift for relating to everyone, whether you lived here all your life or moved here last week.

His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at OMP United Methodist Church, 16426 Center Road. Visitation is at 10 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow.

I will write more about this beloved member of our community, who’s been a presence in my life since the day I was born, but I wanted to make sure you all knew about the memorial. All are welcome to attend. Read his obituary over at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff site here.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
