Sept. 7 – Anniversary Party. Gather at PCL on Saturday, Sept. 7, 6 p.m. to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the library’s lovely new building. Enjoy the music of Barbara Jordan’s The Commoners, along with a complementary cherry sundae. Check out the project’s history timeline in the foyer, including photos and documents. Because the weather forecast looks a little sketchy that day, the event will be in the Community Room inside the library.
Sept. 11 – Community Picnic. Old Mission Congregational Church will host their last “Burgers and Brats” event of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 5:30 p.m. Gather with your friends and neighbors at the church in the heart of Old Mission village, 18687 Mission Road.
Sept. 12 – Singing the Good Old Songs Again. The last of PCL’s summer concert series happens on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., with Gary Brandt and Jackie Davidson. Bring a picnic and chairs and enjoy the sounds we all know and love. Jackie sang with the New Christy Minstrels. Rain venue is the Community Room – no picnic.

This community event is as much a “Friend Raiser” as it is a fundraiser for the church, so stop by and bring your family, then check out the library’s Art Sale next door that same day.
Sept. 18 – Peninsula Insights. Christina Schlitt, president of the Grand Traverse League of Women Voters, is the featured speaker at this month’s meeting of Peninsula Insights at PCL, 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 18. SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
