Sheila Johnson, who is running for the position of Peninsula Township Trustee, sent along a note that she is hosting a Meet-and-Greet for Old Mission Peninsula residents who’d like the opportunity to chat with her before the election.

Meet with Sheila on Sunday, Nov. 3, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Seven Hills Community Center, 13795 Seven Hills Road on the Old Mission Peninsula.

And for more about Sheila, check out her responses to the questionnaire I sent out to all Peninsula Township candidates.

Writes Sheila…

“I’m running for this position because I don’t agree with how some issues have been handled by our current board. I feel I would bring honesty, common sense and transparency to the board. I am not a politician, I am a business person. I have a Bachelors in Accounting, and my husband and I own a commercial HVAC company that I have managed since 2005. I can balance a budget and make tough decisions. I will fight for the community that I am representing. We also purchased a farm on the Old Mission Peninsula last summer, so I have a unique perspective as a resident, business owner and (novice) farmer.”

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
