Betsy Coffia is a Breath of Fresh, Honest Air

I’m writing to express my admiration and support to re-elect Betsy Coffia, candidate for the 103rd District of the Michigan House of Representatives.

Coffia serves in the House of Representatives, and she serves us faithfully. She has proven her commitment to the people of this region. She keeps close contact with us constituents, she speaks to our local issues with knowledge, and she doesn’t waste time on political squabbling.

I grew up voting for Republican candidates – people as diverse as Arnell Engstrom, Mike Dively, Connie Binsfeld and others. Betsy Coffia is a Northern Michigan native in the same mold as those past leaders. She happens to be a Democrat.

I got tired of politics-as-usual, and I switched to voting mostly the Democrat side of the ballot. I’m an MRD (Milliken Republican Democrat). Like Milliken, Betsy Coffia is a breath of fresh, honest air. I’ll vote for her on Nov. 5, and I hope you will join me.

Betsy Coffia Builds Strong and Productive Bipartisan Relationships

Betsy Coffia has been an outstanding State Representative on behalf of the 103rd District.

Betsy has shown the ability to build strong and productive bipartisan relationships with both Rep. John Roth and State Senator John Damoose, resulting in passage of state funding for affordable housing in the county for educators and school support staff, calling for rural development grants to fund broadband, housing, childcare and transportation, and much more.

Betsy Coffia has also been a leader in campaign finance reform in the state, co-sponsoring the BRITE Act that would address Michigan’s abysmal record on governmental transparency. She also has a strong record on protecting our environment for future generations.

I encourage you to vote for Betsy Coffia for the 103rd District of the State House.

-John DeSpelder

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.

Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette

  1. I presume part of the fiscal responsibility included financing a Chinese battery plant over the residents’ objections. And, I have to assume that the future generations she is anxious to provide for are the ones who have escaped the abortionists’ handiwork.

    • This battery plant? And when I looked carefully it seems this was the Senate and not the House vote. Can you provide a citation to indicate where the House is involved in this please?

“But to the No-Gos’ ire, the Green Charter township board, whose seven members were all Republicans, remained unmoved in their supportfor Gotion.”https://www.reddit.com/r/energy/comments/1bmuhmk/inside_a_michigan_towns_unhinged_war_over_a/

  2. Betsy is a strong leader who shows up and does the hard work. She represents the hard working middle class and understands the people of Northern Michigan. She proved herself at the many county commissioners meetings that I attended. She always showed up and stood up for the people she represented and never backed down. Betsy definitely has my vote! And yes, Betsy does believe in personal freedoms, which includes freedom of choice over our own bodies, and she does work at protecting our environment. This is exactly why I support Betsy.

  3. Which of you gentlemen wants to have your wives, daughters, and granddaughters share a toilet or shower room with a 6 ft. guy just because he wears a dress? The same question applies to the two ladies who support that woman. Destruction of Title 9 insults all ladies, young and old.
