-Have they regularly attended Peninsula Township Board meetings?
-Since beginning their candidacy, have they been regularly attending Township Board meetings — in person?
-Since beginning their candidacy, have they made a point to attend a parks committee, shoreline, planning commission, or non-motorized trail meeting?
-In submitting responses to the Old Mission Gazette, is it evident that they have experience or did some level of homework? Whether finalized documents or in process, were they informed having read the Township ordinances, the parks and rec plan, the Master Plan, the available winery lawsuit information, or information published in the Township newsletters?
-Township Board meetings have document packets related to the meeting agenda, most 200 to 300 pages in length, that must be read and considered in preparation for the meeting. Do the candidate’s responses give you confidence that they will do their due diligence in preparing for meetings? Do they have the policy and historic background knowledge needed to contribute in meaningful discussions and wise decision making?
-What skills, previous experience, and knowledge base do they bring to the Township Board? Would they be a resource by providing an informed perspective?
Julie has invested time and hard work serving on a range of Township committees and the Planning Commission. She has demonstrated her commitment to the community and now seeks the opportunity to serve in yet another capacity.
Her past experience with a range of Township matters prepares her well for the role and responsibilities of a Township trustee. Julie Alexander checks all of the boxes.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette
