Here are a few photos from the swearing-in event.
In a note to township residents following the election, Maura Sanders — who makes history as the very first female Peninsula Township Supervisor — thanked the outgoing trustees and staff, and welcomed those who are new and returning. She noted that the Township will close the year with the first Agricultural Advisory Committee meeting on Dec. 16, and kick off the new year with the Township Board Strategic Planning session.
She also reminded residents that even if you’re not elected to an official role, there is always a place for volunteers to help out or offer thoughts about Township matters.
“There is always an opportunity to serve the Township either as a volunteer, filling an open seat on a commission or committee when they become available, and just keeping an eye on what’s going on and offering your thoughts and suggestions,” she wrote. “I will always make the time to speak with you.”
She added, “For the many residents that I haven’t had a chance to meet, please don’t hesitate to say ‘Hi’ when we cross paths. I am often found walking the trails near the Lighthouse, grabbing oops-I-forgots at the Peninsula Market, or eating dinner at the Jolly Pumpkin or Peninsula Grill.”
Residents will also have an opportunity to participate in an upcoming survey about Township issues. The most recent survey took place in 2019.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER: I started Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I felt a calling to provide the Old Mission Peninsula community with local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community where I grew up on a cherry farm and raised my own family. So I started my own newspaper.
Because Old Mission Gazette is a "Reader Supported Newspaper" -- meaning it exists because of your financial support -- I hope you'll consider tossing a few bucks our way if I mention your event, your business, your organization or your news item, or if you simply love reading about what's happening on the OMP. In a time when local news is becoming a thing of the past, supporting an independent community newspaper is more important now than ever. Thank you so much for your support! -Jane Boursaw, Editor/Publisher, Old Mission Gazette

Perhaps next time, a township member can take a picture of those elected individuals who could not attend the official swearing in event & and then forward those images to Jane to include in her newsletter.
I am all about the field reporters! And this is a good opportunity for me to say that if any OMP residents see something interesting or want to send me photos or a note or op-ed about anything related to the OMP, feel free – [email protected] or text (231) 590-4715
