My friend Harry Vann Phillips is not only a great human, he’s also an excellent writer. He sent me this poem about the Old Mission Peninsula after I saw him in church on Sunday. Thanks so much, Harry! It perfectly encapsulates why we all live here on this beautiful Peninsula. Be sure and check out Harry’s other writings at his website here.

And if you have poetry, stories, news, photos, op-eds or anything related to the OMP, feel free to send it to me, [email protected].

We Live Here Content
(An Ode to OMP)

We live here content,
Our slice of heaven,
Between East and West Arms,
Of Grand Traverse Bay,
Amidst cherry orchards,
Vineyards and farms,

We seek one thing,
A place to be,
Away from turmoil,
In forested woods,
On rolling hills,
With heavenly vistas,

Where wary deer roam,
Wild turkeys run,
Eagles soar majestic –
Over this bucolic place,
Its quiet nature,
Divine in design,

Along slow traveled roads,
Fields of fertile farmland,
We live here content,
Our slice of heaven –
Which we call our home,
Old Mission Peninsula.

-Harry Vann Phillips, Feb. 23, 2025
