National Navajo Code Talkers Day is celebrated each year on August 14. In a fascinating part of our history, the day honors those Marines during World War II who used their native language to develop an unbreakable code which helped bring the Allied victory. The complex code was critical in transmitting messages during battle, especially in the Pacific. The day recognizes and honors their courage, as well as the preservation of indigenous languages and culture.
