Greetings, Neighbors! I am hoping for clear and smokeless skies this weekend and moving forward! We can all use some clear and crisp Northern Michigan air again.
The Survey Sub Committee will be submitting their recommendations to the Township planner soon. Once the planner has an opportunity to review the content, she will be turning the recommendations over to EPIC-MRA to start formulating the actual survey. The goal is to have the survey ready by mid to late September.
The Parks Committee held their Go-Tea on Wednesday. It was a wild success! Thank you to Parks Committee member Michele Zebell for organizing the event. If you had a chance to go, then you definitely had as much fun as I did! The goats finished all of their invasive plant chomping on Thursday and have moved on to their next adventure.

Peninsula Township is accepting letters of interest for one immediate opening on the Parks Committee, which meets the fourth Monday at 3 p.m. and fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m., alternating each month. Additional meetings and study sessions might be scheduled. Note: applicants must be qualified electors of the township. Please submit a letter of interest and/or resume to Township Clerk Becky Chown, [email protected], or by mail to 13235 Center Road, Traverse City, MI 49686, by noon on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The Planning Commission will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 5, at 7 p.m. Please check page 10 of the packet for a monthly planner update. They have two business items on the agenda:
- Seven Hills Special Use Permit Discussion
- Motion to Create Zoning Rewrite Subcommittee
Updates From Down the Hall:
The Treasurer’s Office: By now, everyone should have received their tax bills. If you still haven’t received yours, please give the treasurer’s office a call, (231) 223-4484, and we’d be happy to send you another copy in the mail or by email. Bills are due September 15.
The Zoning Office:
Peninsula Township is accepting letters of interest and/or resumes for individuals to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals. One three-year position is open. This board meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month; site visits often precede the meeting. Additional meetings may be scheduled. Applicants must be qualified electors of the township. Please submit a letter of interest and/or resume to Township Clerk Becky Chown, [email protected], or mail it to her at 13235 Center Road, Traverse City MI 49686 by 4 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025.
WOMP vs Peninsula Township Update:
- As of Tuesday, July 15, the Township legal counsel was still working with all current and former insurance companies to see what our actual coverage is. As of this posting, that information is still not confirmed.
- I issued a Memorandum to the board members this week regarding a discussion the Township Board will have at our regular meeting on August 12. We will review a potential moratorium of all non-statutory requirements until the Township has the ability to lessen and/or eliminate the burden on our taxpayers.
- The Township’s insurance counsel will be submitting our appeal this week to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Looking Ahead to Next Week – and Beyond:
The Agricultural Advisory Committee will hold their next meeting on August 19. On the agenda is the much anticipated discussion on an Agritourism definition for our Zoning Ordinance.
Keep an eye on all upcoming meetings via the Township website and our live streamed meetings (saved for 30 days) on our YouTube Channel.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
