A few of you have asked what’s happening at Local Yokels, the popular farm market at the corner of Center Road and Gray Road. You may have seen some heavy equipment there moving dirt around, so I stopped by and talked with Jen Bramer, who owns the business with her husband Ben.
They’ve been busy putting in a drain field for the next phase of their farm market, which includes renovating the interior of the building that once housed thousands of chickens before they bought the parcel. (And was it once a mink farm, too? Someone clue me in on that.)

Once completed, the interior of the building will house an indoor farm market, as well as Jen’s office. Look for holiday wreaths and boughs as we get closer to the Christmas season THIS YEAR. Yes, this year! Our collective wish to buy holiday decor and greenery on the OMP has been granted.
Their long-term goals include a commercial kitchen where they’ll be able to process their own farm products like jams, jellies and honey (they have bees now!), as well as baked goods also made with products grown on their farm. All of this was put in motion with a land use permit from the Township that allows them to take their business to the next level.
In the meantime, they now have lots of Autumn decor and veggies available for sale, including pumpkins, gourds, squash, mums and more, so be sure and stop by the farm market and stock up. I also noticed some dry beans — kidney and pinto beans — grown right here on the OMP. Very cool.
You might even see a skeleton driving a tractor and a coven of witches casting a magical spell on some pumpkins. Ooh went the wind and out went the lights…

What wonderful news! I love the indoor market idea! I’m wondering if calling it the Green Market might indicate they are moving towards more organic practices? Hope so!
I don’t know if they’re completely organic, but I do know they’re very eco-aware when it comes to chemicals and use as little as possible.
Great news!
I grew up in rural South Jersey. My brother drove a tractor in high school in the 70s that pulled customers out in the fields at Duffield’s Farm Market that grew similarly. They are still in operation, have a great bakery and are very, very popular.
This will be a great addition to the Peninsula.
What a nice addition to our ” neighborhood”! Great news!
What a wonderful success story. Ben and Jenn have created a wonderful business and I appreciate their hard work and good business development.

Three cheers to them both and to the Township for granting the permit.
The Local Yokels are “Class” all the way. Looking forward to the indoor market. The Halloween/Fall decorations are perfect. Thank you for giving us a beautiful market.
