Here’s a roundup of news and photos around the OMP…
Trick or Treat on Halloween. Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church is hosting their annual Trick or Treat on Friday, Oct. 31, 5 – 7 p.m. Stop by for free hot dogs, cider, donuts and hot cocoa. And of course, goodies to fill up those trick or treat bags! And don’t worry – it will be inside! The church is located at 16426 Center Road.

Keepsake Ornaments from PCL. The Friends of Peninsula Community Library are offering a beautiful keepsake ornament this year, featuring the angel weathervane atop the library’s carriage house. On the back is the origin story (which Tim Carroll figures heavily into!).
They are $25 each at the library, and you may pay with cash, check or charge using Zeffy. Also, if you buy one, you get to suggest a favorite artifact at PCL for the 2026 ornament. All proceeds go to funding programs, supplies and articles for the Library of Things.

When you stop by the library, be sure and check out Karen Rieser’s beautiful autumn book tree pumpkin in the children’s area. Karen always comes up with awesome designs for her library pumpkin each year.

New Signage at Pelizzari Natural Area. While the Peninsula Township Parks Committee has been busy working on new signage for OMP parks, the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy put up new signage at Pelizzari Natural Area. Here’s a photo of the crew putting up the new sign. Read more about the Pelizzari family here.

Pet Sitter for Hire. My friend Britney Kreiner might be a graphic designer by trade now, but her former career revolved around working with animals. As a certified dog trainer who worked in the veterinary field for several years, Britney knows pets!
To supplement her freelance work-from-home business, Britney is offering 24/7 pet sitting and house sitting services to the Traverse City area. Call her at (540) 419-8962, or email [email protected] for rates and info.

St. Joe’s Fall Festival. A great time was had by all at the 2025 Fall Festival hosted by St. Joseph Catholic Church. I arrived just in time to see Father Rexroat manning the pinata while kids swung wildly at it. He finally took a swing at it, and the candy burst out of there, causing all kinds of excitement among the youngsters.

And here’s a fun bunch taking in the action…

The skies and landscape around the OMP this month have been extra special. Here’s a couple of pics — one of winery hill and the other of my brother’s apple orchard on the corner of Peninsula Drive and Kroupa Road. I’m working on the 2026 OMP calendars, so look for those this week. These are good contenders…
