December 18, 2025

The lobby was hopping this week! Thank you to all the residents that stopped in with holiday wishes and sugary treats. We appreciate the joy you bring to the daily grind of local municipal government.

Just a reminder: Peninsula Township offices are closed* December 19, 2025 – January 4, 2026, for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Staff will be working from home on December 22, 23, 29, and 30, 2025. You may find their email addresses by looking at the staff directory.

The Town Board met this week to enter into closed session to discuss the WOMP litigation and settlement strategy. This is an ongoing and extensive process. It requires discussions amongst the board with legal counsel regarding trial or settlement strategy in connection with specific pending litigation, but only if an open meeting would have a detrimental financial effect on the litigating or settlement position of the public body.

We are legally bound by the Michigan Open Meetings Act. OMA requires public bodies to give advance notice of public meetings, to make all decisions at meetings open to the public, and to keep minutes of each meeting, which are public records open to public inspection.

The Parks Committee met this week and had a full agenda. In addition to approving a new bench at Haserot Beach near the playground, committee members discussed items on their “parks’ wish list” and continued work on new signage for Archie Park, as well as a new “Welcome” sign at Pelizzari Natural Area.

The Zoning Board of Appeals met this week. Follow along via the YouTube video. They had a full agenda that included:

  • Continuation of Variance Request 927 compliance with approvals.
  • Continuation of a Public Hearing, Request 923, to demo/rebuild a home in the R1-C (coastal) zoning district.
  • Public Hearing for Request 928 to install rip rap in the floodplain.

Looking Ahead to Next Week – and Beyond

I had an opportunity for a sneak peek of Local Yokels Farm Green Market. They will be officially open on Saturday! I know there’s been a lot of intrigue and questions swirling while we all watched from afar. Congratulations to Jen and Ben Bramer! Stop by Saturday at 10 a.m. when they open the doors and welcome everyone inside!
