Here’s a video I took today while driving around the Old Mission Peninsula. I have a little holder on my dashboard where I can put my phone, and I recently figured out that I can not only take videos of what’s happening inside the car (still working on my “Ride Along With Jane” idea), but also the road in front of me as I’m driving along.
This video was actually my second attempt. Remember those two days of sunshine we had over the weekend? I know – it seems like so long ago, doesn’t it? Well, I did a video of the same drive in the sunshine but then figured out that it’s better quality if I shoot in 4K on my phone.

The quality still isn’t super crisp when I uploaded it to the Gazette’s YouTube channel, so I’m not sure how to fix that. I’ll keep working on it.
I also didn’t add any music because I so often find music distracting in videos. So it’s sort of a Zen trip around the OMP (other than the random squeaks and beeps my car makes).
I started at Mission Point Lighthouse, took Tompkins Road over to the village of Old Mission, then made my way over to Bowers Harbor, Peninsula Drive, Gray Road, Bluff Road, and back to Center Road to “The Forks” in by town.
It’s about an hour long, so you might want to jump ahead to specific points of interest.

Thoroughly enjoyable video! Lived on OMP 40 yrs but past 10 winters in FL. The video shows just how beautiful our area is in deep winter snow. Thank you!
It really is! There’s nothing like being out in a quiet, snowy woods this time of year (something I haven’t done near enough of!).
Thanks for the video! It helps us know whether the guy were paying to plow our driveway is actually doing it and when syrup season might start soon. Think we’ve got a bit of waiting ahead!
I thought there might be a few of you checking out your homes and driveways!
Great video. Love to see the Peninsula in the winter. Keep your great news coming.
Jane, thank you for that lovely ride down memory lane. I loved seeing all the familiar places, my favorite hiking areas, my old neighborhood. I’d love to see another one showing the beauty of spring or summer. Or fall.
I enjoyed the trip around Old Mission Peninsula … 11 minutes to the split of Center Road and Peninsula Drive … good timing … until you hit the back up at the bottom of the long hill of Center as it meets Peninsula Drive.
It does show how good a job the plowing/treating of Center road has been during this snowy season. Kudos … and I reflect back 15-18 (?) years on OMP when residents fought to keep Center Road a State highway rather than County Road. What one saw in the video was how clear Center Road has been this winter versus other roads.
Thank you for doing this, Jane.
