Hello, Dear Readers. Did everyone weather the Blizzard of ’26 ok? What a wild time that was! Reminds me of the winters we used to have around here when I was a kid.
Here on the east side, we were snowbound for about three days — which really isn’t bad when you think about it (though it seemed like forever, didn’t it?). On Tuesday, our miracle-worker snowplow guy Mike Wells plowed us out. If you know my long and steep and curvy driveway, you know what a challenge it is after a massive snowfall like we just had.

Mike is an amazing snowplow guy, and just an all-around great guy. He and his son Brendan also have a window cleaning business during the warmer months, so be sure and give them a call if you need windows cleaned.

Things are going really well with Freddy, the big orange cat who moved into the house a couple weeks ago. However, I’m convinced he thinks he’s really a dog.
He’s big and clumsy, chews on shoes, gets into the trash, eats like the world is ending, and plops down anywhere he pleases, usually right behind you where you nearly step on him.

He also has zero boundaries. If I’m lying on the couch, he’ll jump on my head and walk across me to get to the other side. And he’s got the biggest paws I’ve ever seen on a cat.

We’re still working on using the scratching posts properly. I bought three tall scratching posts and put them in the kitchen, living room and office. He completely ignores them in favor of the furniture. Charley was never a big fan of them either.
However, I did get a couple of new round things with scratching pads in the middle (one has a ball that rolls around the edges). While I haven’t actually seen him scratching the pads, he absolutely loves to sit on them. I guess it’s progress.

Eye Update: I had my pre-surgery appointment with my regular doc, and she declared me healthy for surgery. Thank goodness! I’m so glad nothing new popped up before I could get my eye fixed. I will never ever EVER take my eyes for granted again.
My vitrectomy eye surgery is scheduled for March 31, followed by a couple weeks of “looking down” to let the gas bubble they put in there settle. I guess it helps in the healing process.
I’d been planning to ask for your “Old Mission Stories” anyway, but now they’ll really help me keep fresh content on the website while my eye heals up. Tell us about your family history, how you ended up on the Peninsula, your life growing up here, working on a farm, spending summers here, family recipes, vintage photos, that sort of thing.
It doesn’t matter if you just got here last week or have generations of OMPers before you. I’d love to share your stories, and I know the readers will love it, too.
Just attach the stories to your email as a Word doc, or paste the text right into the email to me, [email protected].
Here’s a few more pics of Freddy being himself…

So glad you now have Freddy for a companion, he seems like a kool kat! Nancy
Oh Jane! he is one handsome fellow. So happy you have a wonderful new friend.
Good luck with the eye surgery. Hugs
With those huge paws is he polydactyl?
A cat who acts like a dog: the best of both worlds.
Best for the eye surgery Jane. It will set you back a little at first, but in the end it will be well worth it. Be sure and follow the doctor’s orders. Rudy
Freddy is beautiful!
