Neighbors, Flags and Fun: Old Mission’s 2026 Patriotic Walk – 51 Photos and 3 Videos

The 14th Annual “Patriotic Walk Around the Block” took place in the village of Old Mission on Saturday, July 4. Note that it’s not officially a “parade” due to local rules and regulations; however, it’s a very fun old-fashioned community event loved by all.

As in previous years, the walk began at the Old Mission Legion Hall on Swaney Road, around the corner to Bay Street (across from Haserot Beach), Woodland Road to Traverse Street, ending back at the Legion Hall. Bicyclists, walkers, drivers and dogs participated in the event.

Dave Baumann led a short ceremony, with a blessing by Pastor Andrea Johnson of Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church and remarks by my cousin, Old Mission Legion Commander Brent Cooley. Serving as Grand Marshals this year were my brother and sister-in-law Dean and Laura Johnson.

Dave led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and “Star-Spangled Banner,” and cookies and lemonade were served, with hot dogs and chips available inside the Legion Hall. Thanks to Connie Sargent for being the organizer extraordinaire!
