Mary Morgan, our local historian for the History Room at Peninsula Community Library, sent along a few vintage photos of the Junior Royale Parade at the Cherry Festival.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the National Cherry Festival, Mary put together a display on the history of cherry farming on the Old Mission Peninsula, which you can see by strolling the walking path at the library.

And here’s a photo I’ve had in the Gazette archives for a while. This dates back to 1958, when Rob Manigold and Debbie Christopher were the prince and princess. Read more here.
Old Mission Peninsula School Float, circa 1958: Rob Manigold and Debbie Christopher, Cherry Prince and Princess | Photographer Unknown
The adorable boy with blond hair and glasses in the first photo (subtitled: Old Mission Peninsula School – Vintage Photo of Cherry Festival Junior Royale Parade) is Mike Woods, son of Dick and Kathy Woods.
Nancy is correct. Our son Mike Woods was the prince in 1977. The princess is Julie Greter.
The float was THE PIANO and came in 3rd place. In 1978 the – Magazine Sphere printed a wonderful article high lighting the Old Mission Peninsula and the cherries.
So nice we are still neighbors with the next generations
