Update 8/18/26: The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash died at the scene. He has been identified as 17-year-old Wilder Seeburger. The driver who was transported to Munson Hospital has not been identified at this writing.
According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, a southbound Ford F-250 driven by a 22-year-old Traverse City man crossed the centerline and struck a Honda CR-V driven by Seeburger. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

A serious head-on collision left one driver hospitalized with significant leg injuries and prompted an overnight emergency response on Center Road between Mapleton and Smokey Hollow Road on August 16.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m., when two vehicles collided head-on. The impact was severe, leaving one vehicle on its side and the other on fire. The road was shut down, with traffic being detoured using Bowers Harbor Road and Peninsula Drive.
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel faced a challenging rescue operation. One of the drivers, a 22-year-old male, required prolonged extrication efforts before being freed from the wreckage. That driver was subsequently transported to Munson Hospital to receive treatment for trauma and significant leg injuries.
Emergency services personnel remained on scene throughout the night to secure the area, contain the fire, and assist with recovery efforts. The multi-hour response underscored the severity of the crash.
Michigan State Police arrived on scene, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of the crash or information about the other driver involved.

JUst prior to the accident on Center Road, two cars careened South down Peninsula Drive at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, with one passing over a double yellow line and barely avoiding a head-on collision with a car in the northbound lane. Possibly the same vehicles or vehicle crashing on Center Road. Late-night races down Peninsula Drive are all too common.
Not the same vehicles that crashed on Center road. One was southbound and one was northbound…and crossed center and hit southbound vehicle.
Any update on the fatality? Was it an Old Mission resident? Identity of the 22 year old?

So very tragic. The deceased was the son of a gal my son went to NMC with years ago. Condolences to all the family.
This is so sad. There are so many people who are in a hurry and will do anything to get around you. I’ve had so many people who are right on my butt and end up giving me the finger, waving both hands stating it’s 55 mph. and then pass me – mostly on a double line.
A few years back there was a man who was adamant to pass me I had to pull over in a business’s parking. It turned out to be the owner and he wanted me to roll down my window. I wasn’t going to do it and at one point he was about ready to slash my window! I took off and luckily it was only a few miles home.
Those who are driving like this need to get your act together and either get off the roads or take a bus or taxi.
