Neighbors and friends, this week has left the township scarred by tragedy. I would like to take the opportunity offered in my weekly update to honor a young man, Wilder Seeburger, who tragically lost his life in the heart of our beloved peninsula on August 16th.
I would also like to call attention to our first responders, specifically our Peninsula Township Fire Department, our Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State Police.
Please take the time to read Wilder’s obituary and reflect on “His vibrant spirit and loving presence.” Please consider donating toward funeral expenses. Call Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home at (231) 947-6347, and they will be able to take a donation over the phone. Donations will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A memorial gathering hosted by Wilder’s friends will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 7:30 to 9 p.m at Open Space Park. All are welcome to attend and share memories of Wilder.
This tragic accident was responded to by our Peninsula Township Fire Department, Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police. These heroes are there for all of us when we need them the most.
They are also quietly carrying every emergency response where they have answered the call in their hearts and minds. We owe all of them a debt of gratitude and support for their service to the community.
